Vietnam women win Asiad sepaktakraw for first gold

Vietnam won its first gold medal at the Asian Games on 6th December when it beat Thailand in the women’s sepaktakraw final.

At the Al-Sadd Indoor Hall in Doha, Qatar, the Vietnamese girls edged the Thais 2-1.

Vietnam took a 1-0 lead after winning the first game, or regu, 2-1. Thailand equalized after winning the second regu. In the decisive third game, Vietnam fell behind 12-21 before clawing back to take the match and gold medal.

Vietnam had qualified by beating Japan 3-0 and China 2-1 in the preliminary round, before romping past KoreaRepublic 3-0 in the semifinals.

It has won seven medals at the Asiad – a gold, three silvers, and three bonzes – and lies in 11th place in the medals tally.

After the sixth day of competition, the top three remain unchanged. China stands atop with 68 golds, followed by Japan with 18 and KoreaRepublic with 14.
