Binh Dinh Province People's Committee has approved the program for the opening ceremony of Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival 2008. With the theme "Nghia khi Tay Son – Hoi tu va phat trien" (Tay Son's disposition to do good – Convergence and development), the opening ceremony is expected to be an impressive greeting.
A "square art" program
The opening ceremony would be a panoramic view of Binh Dinh's unique features. The image of the national hero Nguyen Hue and Tay Son movement would be reappeared, reminding people of national traditions, said People's Artist Vu Hoai, author of the program.
The opening ceremony will be, therefore, not only a series of single music pieces but a continuous flow of stories, helping the audience enjoy the whole program.
This will be a so-called "square art" program in which artists on the stage and those who are in front of the stage and on the ground will perform together. The performance will include most Binh Dinh's artists, let alone those who come from other provinces and cites, which is expected to bring the audience great feelings.
An impressive program
At the beginning of the program will be the performance of Tay Son wardrum with 100 large drums, gongs, and horns involved, playing as the background music for the march of the Tay Son insurgent army.
The order of the march is as follows: the vanguard and an army of King women and ethnic minority people lead the march, in the middle is King Quang Trung sitting on a howdah, followed by four commanders on four elephants and the others riding on 30-40 horses. The rearguard comes last.
The first part named "Binh Dinh – the beloved land" includes sub-part "Binh Dinh – marvellous sea and sky" reminding people of Ghenh Rang legend. In the show there will be 16 fairies with beautiful dances on the sea and 8 poets on the shore. The second named "Binh Dinh- the land of martial arts" will be the performance of traditional martial arts, showing the sporting spirit of Binh Dinh people. In the last sub-part "Binh Dinh – the land of Tuong (classical opera)", Tuong art will be performed.
The second part entitled "Tay Son's disposition to do good nationwide" consists of the performance of artists coming from other provinces and cities, such as Hue, Gia Lai, HCM City, Tien Giang, and Thang Long Theatre for Dance and Music.
The last one with the title "Reform and development" will be about the industrialization and modernization in Binh Dinh. The image of Thi Nai bridge will appear under the music background before the last show "New vitality – towards the future", aiming at showing the wish for reform.
"The program for the opening ceremony has a connection with other programs for Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival 2008 such as the incense offering ceremony, the night festival with flower garlands and coloured lanterns, and the closing ceremony. I hope the night festival will take place on Thi Nai lagoon," said People's Artist Vu Hoai.
