The conference on Xuan Dieu's poems was held on December 14 in Quy Nhon. At the conference, reports stated untold stories about Xuan Dieu and his works. Below are some comments.
* Professor Phong Le:
Xuan Dieu is the only poet embracing a diverse range of fields such as poetry, prose, poem translation, and essay. The others may involve in such fields but with different concern.
We need to see all such fields, in my opinion, to well understand Xuan Dieu. He was enthusiastic about cultural value and national literature. Reading Xuan Dieu's works on ancestors, I was not only interested in different meanings of words but moved to his love for the national literature.
* Poet Nguyen Duc Mau:
Xuan Dieu said that a hen always had its eggs after laying an egg. Similarly, a poet must develop. He also added that young poets who have only some works hurrily show off. They wouldn't become great poets. Noone read or remembered their poems.
I had been displeased at first. But, then, I realized he was right.
* Poet Anh Ngoc:
Xuan Dieu's love poems have both popular voice and his own features, making him become the brightest star of the New Poetry movement. Positively and negatively, I think that his love poems are more secular than The Lu's, passionate than Luu Trong Lu's, practical than Huy Can's, simple than Hac Mac Tu's and Che Lan Vien's, and complex than Nguyen Binh's.
Despite the title "King of love poetry", Xuan Dieu seemed very simple in real life. He looked as if he was always young and naïve. With such characteristics, Xuan Dieu was the person having "thousands of hearts included in one hearts".
I'm sure that Xuan Dieu will be one of moral values for the next generation.
* Doctor – Poet Pham Dinh An:
Everyone knows Xuan Dieu is a talent journalist. So far, however, there hasn't got any article talking about his career. He worked as a journalist for 50 years.
He was a very carefull editor. He helped young poets no end. In each field, he had his own contributions.
