After launching the 6th drawing contest for children in Binh Dinh with the theme “Uong nuoc nho nguon” (Those who drink the water should remember its source) for three months, there were more than 10,585 pictures drawn by primary and junior high school students.
* Unspoilt views
The contest was not only an activity to mark the 60th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27) but an opportunity to remind students of the nation’s motto that “Those who drink the water should remember its source” and “Those who eat fruits should remember its grower” and of the sacrifice of war invalids, martyrs’ families and people who had contributed great services to the revolution.
According to the organisation board, the number of pictures in the 6th contest was twice as many as the previous one. Most pictures selected from the primary examination stage were about soldiers’ activities, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers’ portraits as well as children’s activities to help wounded soldiers.
In the picture named “Lop hoc tinh thuong” (affectionate class) by Tran Gia Bao, the 5th grade student of TranQuocTuanPrimary School, he drew the picture of a wounded soldier teaching poor children. Dang Chi Cong, a 2nd grade student of NhonBinhPrimary School, described the scene of brave soldiers rescuing victims in a storm.
The new thing of the contest this year was that alongside the theme “Those who drink the water should remember its source” the organisation board encouraged them to draw pictures of Binh Dinh’s land and people or their dreams for the future. Generally, all pictures variously reflected the life through their unspoilt views.
* Discover the potential
Many parents whose children’s pictures were selected for the final stage were surprised with their children’s gifts for drawing. Mother of Tung Anh, who was the first-prize winner, said: “I only know that he loves drawing everyday. I have had to limit his time for drawing so that he could focus on studying.”
“Pictures in the 6th drawing contest were more beautiful and various in topics. With the contest, we could find out those who had gifts for drawing so that families and school could train them,” said the artist Nguyen Quoc Hung, a member of the organisation board.
