The 2007 traditional martial art championship for Binh Dinh’s clubs closed in the evening of August 4 with many interesting result. On the contrary with the predictions of the audience as well as experts, the results of the final round were unexpected; however, this brought pleasure to both the organiser and clubs.

It was thought that three clubs of Tuy Phuoc district, that is, Phi Long Vinh, Vo Van Tinh, and Kim Hue, would compete for the championship in the performance event because they were led by chief coach who had won many national prizes in this event.
Before the final night, however, there were 4 clubs winning two gold medals and they all had equal chances to win the cup. And in the final night, after two athletes of Phi Long Vinh and Vo Van Tinh clubs had unexpected results, the championship was the competition between Kim Hue club and Tran Quy Ba club (Hoai An district). The athlete of Kim Hue club performed well, but he unintentionally dropped the rod; therefore, the third gold medal belonged to Tran Quy Ba club. This is the first time a club of Hoai An district won the championship title in the performance event.
In the one-on-one event, Ho Be club of Tay Son district successfully defended its championship because the club had not only a large number of athletes but good preparations for the tournament. Master Ho Be used his camera to record all matches in which Ho Be club’s athletes took part, and he, then, analyzed the contenders’ strong points and weak points.
Another interesting result was that an athlete of Hoang So club (Phu My district) won the only gold medal for the first time.
Generally, the clubs of Tuy Phuoc district still had advantages in the performance event; meanwhile, in the one-on-one event, clubs of Tay Son, An Nhon, and Hoai Nhon districts predominated because the traditional martial arts have strongly developed in these districts. But other clubs of Hoai An or Phu My districts partly showed their improvement, which was a good sign for Binh Dinh traditional martial arts.
“At this year’s tournament, athletes had good preparations. We selected five athletes, including for two athletes of Tay Son district and three of Phu My, Hoai Nhon, and An Nhon districts, for the Binh Dinh traditional martial art squad,” said Mr. Bui Trung Hieu, the Binh Dinh squad’s chief coach in the one-on-one event.
