The 2nd Binh Dinh lullaby and folk song festival plans to be held in Quy Nhon city in two days. Binh Dinh Newspaper’s reporter interviewed Nguyen An Pha, head of the organization board, about the issue.
* What is the aim of the second festival?
This year’s festival aims to preserve old lullabies and folk songs. These are very valuable cultural features in Binh Dinh. At present, the old lullabies have gradually sunk into oblivion.
The festival is, therefore, expected to be an opportunity for artists to share experiences and perform, helping the young know more about a type of intangible cultural heritage.
More importantly, it will raise the people’s awareness, requiring the preservation and development of old melodies.
* What programs will be involved in the festival?
Distinctive lullabies and folk songs in each locality will be performed in the festival. Contestants will be asked to perform Binh Dinh old lullabies only. Those who are ethnic minorities will be able to perform in their own procedures.
Contestants performing folk songs are encouraged to use original melodies. Lullabies and folk songs will be performed in both Kinh and ethnic minority languages.
The themes include the revolutionary struggle, disaster prevention, production achievements, Vietnamese women’s characters, and love.
Male contestants are also encouraged to perform lullabies in this year’s festival. There will be some extra prizes for the youngest and oldest contestants and the best male ones.
* How is the preparation for the festival?
More than 70 contestants will participate in 50 performances. At present, all preparations for the festival are ready. All participants have to follow terms and conditions.
The jury panel will include qualified people. The organization board will try their utmost to ensure a successful festival.
