The national crossbow shooting tournament 2008 hosted in Binh Dinh opened on October 18. Binh Dinh squad is expected to be ranked third.

More than 70 competitors coming from provinces of Dien Bien, Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen, Yen Bai, Quang Ninh, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Da Nang city attended this year’s tournament.

“This is the first time Binh Dinh hosts the national crossbow shooting tournament. However, we had much experience when hosting other sports competitions. We well prepared for the competitions,” said vice director of provincial Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department, Dinh Khac Dien,

Binh Dinh squad also well prepared for their competitions in the tournament, hoping to reap the best results.

All Binh Dinh’s competitors, mainly students of Vinh Thanh junior high school, practiced together over one month ago.

Despite the careful preparation, Binh Dinh’s coach Vo Dinh Hung still worried about women’s competitions.

The competitor Dinh Thi Thong, who won many medals in previous tournaments, couldn’t join this year’s competitions. Her absence could a loss for Binh Dinh squad in women’s competitions, said Hung.

Hung also said that male competitors were expected to reap better achievements even though many good competitors participated in the tournament.

In the 2007’s national crossbow shooting tournament held in Tuyen Quang province, Binh Dinh squad won 6 medals, consisting of 1 gold, 2 silvers, and 4 bronzes, ranking third.
