Binh Dinh Newspaper reporter had a talk with Vice Chairwoman of Binh Dinh Province People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh, head of organising board for Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival 2008 on the issue of preparations for the event.
Q: As we know, many localities nationwide have been holding their own festivals. What is the purpose of Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival 2008 ?
A: That’s true. Every festival has its own purposes. Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival aims to introduce Binh Dinh’s land and people to domestic and foreign tourists. Thanks to this, Binh Dinh is expected to develop its economy and tourism.
Previously, Binh Dinh wanted to hold a festival but it needed the infrastructure as well as the economic conditions. In 2006, Binh Dinh successfully held the first international traditional martial arts festival which was considered as a “pre-festival”.
With good preparations, Binh Dinh determined to hold Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival this year. This is an opportunity to introduce Binh Dinh, a province stepping forwards with the strong socio-economic development after being listed in the Central key economic region.

Q: What are the unique features of Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival 2008?
A: This year’s festival will characterize Binh Dinh as a potential land with various traditional culture. These are cultural features in Vietnamese classical drama, martial arts, and Cham culture.
Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival will base on its own culture to create unique features in comparison with Nha Trang’s or Vung Tau’s festival.
Q: Many people are concerned of its theme “Covergence and development”. Could you talk more about this?
A: Basing on the aim of the festival and realizing that this is an opportunity to introduce Binh Dinh to domestic and foreign tourists, we decided to choose the theme “Convergence and development”.
Also, the theme is originated from two names “Quy Nhon” and “Nhon Hoi” whose meaning is to gather people. Convergence also means integration for the development. This idea was widely approved.
Q: Many enterprises have contributed a great amount of money to hold the festival. What did the Organising Board do to mobilize the expenditure?
A: We think that the festival needs to have the participation of the community. When participating in the festival, they will be able to make it more successful. So far, enterprises in Binh Dinh promised to contribute VND18 billion, let alone Binh Dinh people living in other provinces.
The mobilization is effective because the festival plans to be held with obvious aims, attracting the participation of all people. Those who were born in Binh Dinh also feel proud of their hometown; therefore, they are ready to contribute their help to hold the festival.
Q: During the preparation for the festival, what has the organising board still worried?
A: Many works haven’t been done. Provincial Chairman Ha steered functional bodies to finish works before July 15. Alongside this, the propaganda for the festival must also be furthered and programmes need to be well prepared.
Another issue is the stay for tourists. This year’s festival is expected to attract many tourists whereas hotels in Binh Dinh can’t meet the demand. We will, therefore, have to prepare for this.
