“Honoring the physical beauty and talent of women” is going to be used as the slogan for the beauty contest taking place within the framework of Tay Son - Binh Dinh Festival. This is also a distinction feature, making the beauty contest different from other beauty contests.

The beauty contest will take place after the Miss Universe Pageant 2008 held on July 14 in Khanh Hoa province, and the final night of Miss Vietnam Tourism pageant 2008 held on July 26 in HCM City. On August 31 the Miss Vietnam pageant is scheduled to start its final round in Hoi An.

Thus, it is necessary to make the beauty contest different from others. Le Quy Duong, director of the beauty contest, is to use the slogan “honoring the physical beauty and talent of women”.

We would focus on honoring the physical beauty and talent of those participating in the contest, said Duong. He hoped that it will create a distinctive feature for the contest, conveying the message saying that modern women are beautiful and intelligent. Bui Thi Xuan, a historical figure, will become a key symbol in the contest.

Alongside this, Binh Dinh is a cradle of Tuong (Vietnamese classical drama) art. The mask used in Tuong performances has unique cultural values. Nearly 200 masks will be used in the beauty contest.

Martial arts will be used as a distinctive impression in this contest. Contestants must perform techniques with or without weapons. This can prove their physical beauty.

The beauty contest can be known as an opportunity to honor traditional values of the land of Tuong, the land of martial arts, and the land of a well-known historical figure, Bui Thi Xuan. These are expected to help the beauty contest leave good impression on tourists.

Programs of the beauty contest, particularly in the final night (August 3) promises to attract many tourists. Advanced technologies, big screen, and light will be used to create visual effects for the stage, according to director Duong. In the final night, the image of Bui Thi Xuan will appear throughout the performance of 200 masks.

Miss Beauty will receive the crown and VND100 million. There will be other prizes and presents. Also, all contestant attending the final round will be granted certificates and VND5 million.

Invitation letters have been sent to Departments of Culture-Sports, and Tourism nationwide. Binh Dinh Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will also help contestants practice skills in martial arts if required.

Foreign delegations participating in the second International Festival of Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts will be able to nominee their female athletes to attend the beauty contest. Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh agreed this in a recent visit to Binh Dinh. This is an opportunity for women from other countries to participate in the contest.
