The 1st Binh Dinh crossbow shooting tournament will open on August 14 at Tay Son District’s sporting event hall. The tournament is expected to become a turning point in developing the crossbow shooting in Binh Dinh.

Binh Dinh is one of Southern provinces in which the crossbow shooting strongly develops. The tournament aims to encourage the practice of crossbow shooting in localities and select athletes to take part in the 2nd national crossbow shooting tournament held in Binh Dinh in October. We hope that many athletes will be selected to reap higher achievements at national magnitude, said Vo Dinh Hung, an official of provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

More than 70 athletes coming from districts in Binh Dinh will join the tournament. Most of them have well prepared for their competitions. Tay Son District’s athletes, including some members in the national squad, outdo in competitions for men.

Van Canh District has high expectations of athlete Nguyen Van Thu and competitions for team. “To prepare for the tournament, Van Canh District’s team has practised for more than one month. We will join all competitions and hope to win medals in competitions for team. Our team involves young athletes; therefore, they don’t have enough experience in such a tournament,” said Dao Van Phung, who is in charge of Van Canh District’s team.

Vinh Thanh high school is expected to become a tough opponent in competitions for women. Many athletes of Vinh Thanh high school are Kinh people but their skills in the crossbow shooting are as good as other ethnic athletes. Dinh Cong Su, a member of Vinh Thanh high school’s team, won a silver medal at the 7th national Phu Dong Sports Festival.

Failing in previous tournaments, An Lao District’s team will participate in this year’s tournament, using Bana ethnic minority’s crossbow. They are considered as one of the unknowns in the coming tournament.
