SCTV to build cable TV network as licensed
15:10', 4/9/ 2008 (GMT+7)

Clients in Binh Dinh will be able to watch 72 channels on SCTV

Binh Dinh Province People’s Committee licensed Saigontourist Cable Television Company (SCTV) to build another cable TV network in Binh Dinh. Binh Dinh Newspaper’s reporter Ngoc Tu spoke with SCTV’s director Tran Van Uy about the issue.

* Why did SCTV decide to build a cable TV network in Binh Dinh?

SCTV is now using hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) network, combining optical fibre and coaxial cable. It has been commonly employed globally by cable TV operators in the world.

SCTV is the first cable TV operator licensed to use HFC network in Vietnam. We have conducted the cable TV in Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces for 15 years.

Binh Dinh is one of central provinces we targeted to expand our operation. We’re really glad when permitted to build the cable TV network in Binh Dinh.

* Could you talk more about SCTV’s services and their cost?

There will be nearly 72 channels on SCTV’s cable TV network, including Vietnam’s channels and other international ones (STAR WORLD, MTV, ESPN, STAR MOVIES, STAR SPORT, PHOENIX, CNN, BBC, HBO).

Also, Binh Dinh’s clients will be able to access internet via cable TV network. Subscribers who use multi-service package will be favored with preferential price.

Subscribers have to pay a VND500,000 installation fee and monthly subscription of about 40,000. We also plan to reduce the cost so that low-income people could use our cable TV.

* How about the installation of cable TV network?

At first, SCTV will build the optical fibre to transmit the signal from Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon city.

We will, then, build the cable television headend and HFC network in Quy Nhon and other Districts. Potential areas will be given priority.

At present, we are now completing all formalities to kick off the construction. After administrative procedures are finished, we will carry out the project immediately.
