The 220th anniversary of Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da victory is scheduled to take place in Phu Phong, Tay Son District on the 4th and 5th days of the first lunar month (Jan. 29 and 30). With many activities, the festival is expected to honor the traditional value, creating a bustling atmosphere in Binh Dinh, the birthplace of King Quang Trung.

The incense and flower offering will be held at Quang Trung Museum in the afternoon of the 4th day of the first lunar month. The spiritual event will involve the traditional rituals and arrangement art.

There will be 100 drums with Tay Son soldiers lining from the bridge to Tay Son Tam Kiet shrine. Visitors will be hailed with the sound of drums and gong. All are expected to express the gratitude to the ancestor.

The celebration of Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da victory will be marked on the fifth day in front of the museum. The Quang Trung and national flags raising ceremony will be solemnly carried out, beginning the festival. Following will be art performances, including Tay Son wardrum, flag dances, and martial arts.

Also, the cồng (gong) and chiêng program and Bana folk dances will be involved during two days at the museum.

Another music program entitled “the spring of victory – aspiration for a new day” will take place on the 4th day, ending with the fireworks display.

The arrangement art named “Coi nguon” (origin) is planned to be held on the fifth day. Those who will visit Tay Son Tam Kiet shrine will walk around the tamarind tree, taking a seed and drinking a mouthful of water from the old well.

“Binh Dinh held Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival last year; therefore, the celebration of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory will be economically held,” said director of provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Van Trong Hung. However, it will still be very imposing, he added.

“We will strive to successfully hold the festival,” said Le Quy Duong, director of the festival. “The spiritual features will be focused on, particularly Tay Son’s three brothers and the uprising.

The preparation for the festival is scheduled to begin next week in Phu Phong with the participation of 500 students in Tay Son District.
