Cham tower upgrade needs cautiousness

Together with the protection of Cham towers requiring carefulness, their upgrade also needs cautiousness to uphold historical and culture value.

More and more investment has been poured into the embellishment of Cham towers in the central province of Binh Dinh. The Doi (twin) Towers has been the first receiving the embellishment. Its landscape is now more beautiful.

The second phase of Canh Tien (fairy wings) tower in An Nhon district has started. The construction of extra items, such as roads, flower garden, and ornamental plants, are expected to finish by late 2010. Banh It (also called Silver) towers also got an overall plan for upgrade.

The design for Duong Long towers was completed, let alone other items for its infrastructure. The restoration of Binh Lam tower is another project which will be carried out in the coming time.

Alongside these, overall plans for Thu Thien tower in Tay Son district and Phu Loc tower in An Nhon district have been proposed.

These are positive signs, but it’s necessary to pay attention to their effectiveness. Each tower has its own unique features. The embellishment for each must focus on the artistic features, not just “construction”.

The upgrade of Canh Tien tower, for example, needs reconsidering because it is not a nice design from an esthetic point of view. The restoration of Doi towers has also proved less effective for the area around it isn’t really spacious.

“The planning for Cham tower embellishment was carefully proposed with the steering of the leaders and contributions from experts and relevant bodies,” said director of the province’s relic management board Dang Huu Tho. “The restoration will be carried out basing on the distinctive features of each tower; however, it’s very difficult to fulfill all requirements.”

The embellishment, thus, requires further contributions for the upgrade in the future, he added.
