UNESCO Club Binh Dinh now becomes home for antique lovers |
Under the decision of Vietnam UNESCO Club Association, Binh Dinh UNESCO Club for antique research and collection (UNESCO Club Binh Dinh) was set up on July 26, 2008. The club aims to study and preserve antiquities as well as raise the people’s awareness of cultural heritage protection.
Its first event was the antiquity exhibition held during the Tay Son-Binh Dinh Festival 2008. Different kinds of worshipping objects and daily use items, including altar, incense burner, and ancient beds were displayed, attracting scores of visitors.
“Anyone could show their enthusiasm for antiquities,” said Phuong Lan, a member of UNESCO Club Binh Dinh. “I love the beauty of the past and items which are familiar with our daily life.”
The club has its own website (www.covatbinhdinh.com.vn) introducing the research and collection of antiquities. It is also a favorite forum for those who are interested in antiquities.
On the 34th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day (Apr.30) and May Day (May 1), the club held another exhibition displaying antiquities for daily use and royal items.
Most were made in Chine and brought to Vietnam from late 18th century to early 20th century. Many antique lovers and collectors highly valued the exhibition.
The club had only 21 members 9 months ago, but the figure is now 33, who are all interested in antiquities.
“The club is to coordinate with Binh Dinh Museum to hold an exhibition of Go Sanh potteries,” said the club chairman Pham Thanh Tri. “Its members will also have chances to share experiences with antique lovers from other clubs nationwide.”
Listening to the past could help understand present issues and forecast the future. Those who show enthusiasm for antiquities know this, Tri added.
