Vo Minh Hau performs at the Karaoke Singing Contest 2009 |
Vo Minh Hau had to suffer the greatest misfortune in his life at the age of 12. He was slowly going blind. Sometimes he wanted to die, but he has taken a more optimistic view thanks to the music.
With the help of his brother, who is an instrumentalist, Hau learnt to play the guitar and drum. Before beating a set of three drums, he had to touch each to identify the distance between them. However, he still made mistake when beating the drums.
It was more difficult to play the guitar. He had to use not only his hands to locate the parts of the guitar but the sharpness of his hearing and mind to listen to the sounds.
Hau was very patient to learn. As a result, melodies in music made him feel balanced and he has gradually become self-confident.
Seeing his brother less gloomy, Hau’s elder brothers presented him an electronic organ. Surprisingly, he could skillfully play the organ by teaching himself.
Thanks to his hard training and great enthusiasm for music, Hau is able to well play three kinds of musical instruments.
He participating in an art performance held in Quy Nhon when he was 18. “I felt quite nervous for the first time I perform in front of many people,” Hau recalled. “But the more I performed, the more I was confident. It was difficult to describe how excited I was.”
“After the performance, I felt I got rid of the inferiority complex and I became a member of a band performing at wedding ceremonies and events,” he added. “It’s still new.”
Three years ago, he decided to devote his time to join events at Nguyen Nga vocational training center for disabled people.
Being an instrumentalist, Hau also has a beautiful voice. Many visitors coming to the center felt moved when enjoying his performance.
Two years ago, it was a great honor for him to be invited to perform nationwide during one year. Hau was also selected to join the final night of the Karaoke contest held recently.
“Hau’s performance is really excellent, proving his great effort in training,” the musician Chau Duc Khanh said. “He also has a very beautiful voice, attracting many people.”
At present, Hau is very busy preparing for the celebration of the Buddhist’s 2553rd birthday. It was difficult to make an appointment with him on these days. He looks younger than his age.
“Music is the eyes bringing light to my life,” he said. “It helps me integrate into the society and stand on my own feet.”
