In a “photo world” of emotion

Three Vietnamese photographers, including Dao Tien Dat, Le Hong Linh, and Hoang Trung Thuy, attended the photographic exchange in France from June 3-18 at the invitation of Image Sans Frontière-ISF (Image Without Frontier). After returning to Binh Dinh, Dat talked about his impression from the visit. Hoai Thu reports.

We visited symbols of France, such as the Eiffel Tower, Versailles castle, and Notre Dame de Paris ('Our Lady of Paris' Cathedral) on the first day in Paris.

We were also excited to take photos of Eiffel Tower at night when there are hundreds of lights around the Tower turned on.

I presented my French friends with a stone half-length statue of Emperor Quang Trung and my photo “Go Gang conical hat 2”. Ms Marie-France Delattre, ISF President, was full of admiration for the Emperor after we had told her his career.

Interestingly, I had a chance to join the 6th international photographic festival of People and Nature of La Gacilly 2009 during the visit. It is annually held from June to September, attracting nearly 200,000 tourists worldwide.

The outdoor showcase for photos left a good impression on us. Digital pictures have been displayed along roads or in the gardens, making visitors feel that they were walking in a “photo world” of emotion.

Coming to Sénas, we spent time taking photos and meeting with members of Scen’as Photo Club. They are very kind and hospitable.

Also, we opened a photo exhibition entitled “Our Vietnam” in Sénas, displaying 50 black and white and color photos of different themes.

The exhibition attracted many French photographers and the locals, helping them know more about “our Vietnam”.

Returning to Paris on the last days, we continued to visit other famous sites. We were really surprised when touring Lourve Museum in which more than 35,000 valuable items are exhibited.

Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous painting, the Mona Lisa, is showcased in a separated area. It is protected by two barriers and three guards.

Before leaving France, we came to the Montmartre Hill, famous touristic area in Paris. Montmartre was the best place for painting, with a lot of famous painters as Pissarro, Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlen, Van Gogh, Modigliani, Picasso... today, the Montmartre hill is always a big place for painters.

We met three overseas Vietnamese painters there. When painter Tran Van Liem, one of three, was talking with us, a tourist came and asked him to draw but he refused for he was receiving guests “from Vietnam”.

During the visit, we saw that the French have extended the hand of friendship. Also, a talk with an overseas Vietnamese painter made me clearly experience the significance of the word “compatriot”.
