Various kinds of specialties are displayed at the Go market

On the first day of the first lunar month people flock to the Go market in Tuy Phuoc district, which is held once a year to buy good luck for the year to come. According to the popular belief, anything bought at the market would bring good luck to the buyer for the whole year.

The market opens at the early morning with various kinds of specialties, particularly betel and areca, displayed. Deals are agreed quickly, as people believe, to keep the luck.

Alongside this, those who come to the market also have chances to enjoy the local specialties, such as fried fish, fermented pork roll, and banh it la gai (glutinous three-cornered rice cake filled with green bean paste) and join folk games.

According to the elderly, the spring market was held for the first time when the Tay Son army were garrisoned here, aimed at helping soldiers forget their homesickness.

The Go market, which opens once a year, now becomes one of traditional festivals in Binh Dinh when the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday begins.
