Being the martial arts Master Phan Tho’s second son, Duc was trained to master most of the martial arts techniques when he was a child. He, therefore, seldom failed in defeating his opponents when he was young.
He then learned boxing from martial arts Master Tu Tam, one of his father’s friends, in Quy Nhon, hoping to find out more secrets of martial arts.
Although he has only won a silver medal at the national traditional martial arts championship, his talent is still recognised. From 1982 to 1999, Duc was trusted to be assigned as the coach of Tay Son martial arts squad when he was only 22.
Working with all-out effort, Master Phan Huu Duc and his squad have reaped many achievements. Duc then worked as the Chairman of Tay Son district’s traditional martial arts association during 11 years. However, he recently said he was going to retire because he wanted to make room for young people.
After assisting his father in teaching disciples, Duc is now taking control over his father’s martial arts club when Master Phan Tho is too old to manage the club.
More and more people have enrolled for martial arts courses at the club. Master Phan Huu Duc has to use the yard to meet their demands in the summer holiday.
In 2006, he was invited to work as an instructor at Tay Binh – Tay Son body Guard Company and he has been busier since then.
“Practising martial arts is to improve our health and defend ourselves,” Duc said. “As far as I’m concerned, practising martial arts is the pride because I’ve followed the ancestor’s tradition.”
