The Phu Yen Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism invited the Dao Tan Tuong (classical drama) Theatre to perform the “Tinh yeu and khat vong” (love and aspiration) play composed by Pham Ngoc Son in Phu Yen province on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Phu Yen’s founding and development.
The Tuong play aims to honor the celebrity Luong Van Chanh who greatly contributed to the establishment of Phu Yen 400 years ago.
“Performing ancient Tuong plays is an advantage of the theatre,” said the theatre’s director Hoang Ngoc Dinh. “I do believe its actors and actresses will successfully perform the play.”
According to historical documents, under the Le-Mac dynasty, Luong Van Chanh was a military mandarin, who was born in Tao Son village, Thanh Hoa Province. In 1597, the Lord Nguyen Hoang assigned him to take 4,000 people to reclaim the land spreading from Cu Mong pass to Ca pass (present-day Phu Yen Province).
