These young artists still need more efforts to succeed

A group of young artists has just finished their training course at Dao Tan Tuong (classical drama) Theatre. According to senior artists, they have great potential.

Inexperience is the inevitable outcome the young artists got as they were trained under a program which offers less time for practice. When working at Tuong troupes, thus, not many meet all professional requirements.

The theatre has changed the training program to some extent, offering a more practical environment for young artists. It hence partly resolves the problems.

Their performances at the end of the course showed their great potential. More importantly, they prove the effectiveness of changes in recruiting artists and training program used by Dao Tan Tuong Theatre.

17 young artists performed different extracts of ancient plays, such as “Luu Kim Dinh ha son” (Luu Kim Dinh goes down the mountain), “Ho Nguyet Co hoa cao” (Ho Nguyet Co becomes a fox), “Chuyen tinh nang cong chua Sa Mi” (the love story of Sa Mi princess), “Ong gia cong vo di xem hoi” (the old man carries his wife on the back to a festival).

Watching their performances, former provincial Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh said that she really worried about the project when approving it two years ago. Seeing the initial results, she was very happy and hoped that the Theatre will continue following the route to preserve and develop Binh Dinh’s Tuong art.

Former Vice Director of Binh Dinh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen An Pha also expressed the hope that senior artists will help and encourage young artists to try their utmost to practice and show great enthusiasm for Tuong art.

“I see these artists’ determination when choosing Tuong as their career,” said the Theatre’s director Gia Thien.

People have great hopes of them – young artists of Tuong art.
