Dat previously carried out a trans-Vietnam journey in late 2010, collecting more than 2,000 signatures of traffic police nationwide. He visited the Sen village in Nam Dan district, Nghe An province.
“Talking with the locals, I understand more about Uncle Ho,” he said. “I suddenly hit an idea of bringing a statue of Uncle Ho to Dong Thap. This is also Uncle Ho’s dream when he was alive.”
Returning to HCM City, Dat mobilized his friends and some businesses to donate money to make a stone statue of Uncle Ho, using Non Nuoc stone in Da Nang city.
The statue, which is 60 cm high and has a weight of 70 kg, was positioned behind his Vespa vehicle which was also decorated with famous places, such as Sen village, Nha Rong station, Duc Thanh school, and the temple of Nguyen Sinh Sac, Uncle Ho’s father.
Relevant bodies in many provinces also responded to his journey. In the Sen village, a ceremony was held on May 19 on the occasion of Uncle Ho’s 121th birthday, starting his trans-Vietnam journey. Coming to Thua Thien-Hue, Dat also coordinated with Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to carry out an incense offering ceremony in front of the statue of Nguyen Tat Thanh at Quoc Hoc high school.
Dat said he had a 60- year-old travelling companion named Nguyen Thanh Hoa when coming to Da Nang. Thanks to the journey, he realized that Vietnamese people have the greatest respect for Uncle Ho.
After donating the statue of Uncle Ho to the temple of Nguyen Sinh Sac, his Vespa-brand vehicle will also come under the hammer and money will be donated to study promotion funds in cities and provinces where he stopped during his journey.
