Joining the National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2011 taking place in HCM City from June 2-9, Binh Dinh’s chess team is expected to make a surprise in the women’s event.

As regulated, participating chess players are national and international grandmasters. Each team is also allowed to register more players for team and individual events.

In rapid chess game, each player will have 25 minutes to complete the game while they will have 5 minutes to complete the game in the blitz chess game. All games follow Swiss standard.

The tournament is divided into two phases. In phase 1, team medals will be awarded based on the total score of the top four players of a team. Four teams ranking from 1st to 4th positions will attend the semi-final and final games in phase 2.

Binh Dinh’s female players are expected to win medals in the tournament as young players Nguyen Thi Thuy Trien and Ho Thi Tinh have showed improvement recently, let alone senior players Bui Kim Le and Le Thi Thu Huong. They previously won many achievements in other important competitions.

“This is also a chance for us to exactly evaluate our player’s capacity,” said Binh Dinh chess team’s coach Ton That Luong Chinh. “We have tried to help young players to join more competitions, aiming to prepare for the national sports festival in 2014 and the SEA Youth Chess Tournament in Indonesia.”

The competitions are forecast to be very serious in this year’s tournament as many localities have given special attention to chess. Binh Dinh’s chess team is expected to win a high position at the event.
