Awaiting for a big work for Dao Tan

The old gate leading to Dao Tan’s house has been dilapidated.

Visiting the tomb of Dao Tan located in Huynh Mai hamlet, Phuoc Nghia commune in early July, I felt sad when realizing its surrounding scenery is not as beautiful as I imagined.

It seemed the stone-paved road running from the foot of Huynh Mai mountain to the tomb of Dao Tan became longer under the hot weather. There are also no trees along the road.

The tomb which was recognized as the relic of national magnitude in 1998 has a simple architectural design. It is now dilapidated while there are not steles providing the information about his career, except some Han (Chinese) scripts carved on the tomb.

There is a temple dedicated to Dao Tan in the garden of his old house located in Vinh Thanh hamlet, Phuoc Loc commune. His great-grand child Dao Tung Phi built the temple many years ago, but it hasn’t been upgraded so far.

“I’m afraid that the traces will disappear in the future as I couldn’t afford the restoration,” Phi sadly said.

In March, 2007, Tuy Phuoc district People’s Committee was assigned to coordinate with relevant bodies to propose a plan for building a temple dedicated for Dao Tan. A proposal was then submitted to the provincial People’s Committee for consideration; however, there haven’t any plans for the issue so far.

Similarly, the local authorities asked the permission from the province’s functional bodies to restore the relic in October, 2008, but they haven’t received any feedback for two years.

The local authorities and people are waiting for a big work deserving to Dao Tan’s credit, according to Vo Tuan Khanh, an official of Tuy Phuoc district. They will submit another proposal to the relevant bodies for approval in the coming time.
