Le Quyen – a “nightingale” at the land of Tuong
16:31', 8/8/ 2011 (GMT+7)

Excellent Artist Le Quyen in a role of a royal concubine in “Son Hau” Tuong play.

“As a Tuong actress, Le Quyen preserves distinctive traits of Binh Dinh Tuong – classical drama. Particularly, she has a beautiful and sweet voice like a nightingale!”, says Mich Quang - a Tuong researcher - about Le Quyen actress.

Le Quyen was born and grown up to a peasant family in An Nhon district, hometown of many famous Tuong artists, including Thap Sau, Nhung Nam, Hong Thu, Hoang Chinh, Le Sieng.  Thus, she developed her fervent love for Tuong at very early childhood. Performance of Le Sieng artist went into dream of the13-year-old girl Le Quyen. The dream became true to her as she was 16 years old. Backed by her family, she started her career as an actress of Nhon Khanh Tuong troupe.

Her first teacher was famous artist Hong Thu. Thanks to devoted learning, the young actress gradually got progresses and became key actress of the troupe. She won fondness of the audience through roles in many plays.

Le Quyen then got married with Hoang Viet , the youngest son of  artist Hong Thu and Excellent Artist Hoang Chinh. She, thus, had more chances to learn and improve her performance.

In her first 10 years of performance, Le Quyen worked for various unprofessional Tuong troupes: Nhon Khanh, Nhon Hoa, Phu My, Nhon Loc, Tay Son 2 and Quy Nhon – based Le Hong Phong Tuong club. In 1986, she worked for Nghia Binh troupe (present Dao Tan Tuong Theatre). She was taught there by master artists like Vo Sy Thua, Truong Dinh Boi and learnt more from senior actresses like Hoa Binh, Phuong Thao, etc. Talent of Le Quyen displayed itself more.

She started to play new roles and got successes. Such results encouraged her to peruse the career as a professional actress.

Having a good-looking outer appearance, a beautiful face and a sweet voice, Le Quyen left her own hallmark in the path to Tuong. She could play various kinds of roles such as female fighting soldier or young male. Yet, Le Quyen was best at role of a pitiful woman, a girl who led a simple, peaceful life or young lady who was born to a noble family and had a tragic life.

After nearly 30 years of self-devotion to Tuong art, Le Quyen won lots of honourable prizes and was given title Excellent Artist in 2007.

Behind her success was great contribution of her life partner, choreographer Hoang Viet, who used to be an actor of Dao Tan Tuong Theatre. Now, at the age of 50, Le Quyen is enjoying fruitful successes in her career and marriage. She just expects to see development of next generations of talented Tuong actresses and actors who maintain Tuong tradition of the province.

She herself wants devote more for the audience but she can’t because of heart disease. Although she hasn’t stood in the stage for nearly one year, the audience still remember the beautiful actress with sweet voice like a nightingale.
