You’ve travelled to Europe to teach Vietnamese traditional martial arts for three times. How do you feel in the latest journey?
Although I’ve travelled to European countries for many times, my feeling for this journey was still very special. I’m always proud of contributing to popularize Vietnamese traditional martial arts nationwide. I carefully prepare everything for any journey. Their way of welcoming traditional martial arts made me feel more proud.
What did you do during two months of working as a martial arts instructor abroad?
When coming to Switzerland, I spent much time in Lausanne. Son Long quyen thuat school’s masters coming from such cities as Fribourg, Vevey, Morges, Bulle, and Berne, joined my program every day.
Also, I was sometimes invited to perform the typical techniques of Vietnamese traditional martial arts in the cities. This is also a way to attract local people to practice Vietnam’s martial arts.
Similarly, in France, I trained martial arts masters who are in charge of martial arts clubs in Annecy, Marseille, Lyon, Saint Etienne, Nantes, and Rennes.
I also taught martial arts to 250 martial arts practitioners in Saint Julien de Lampon in two weeks. I spent time joining a martial arts festival held in Lausanne and Gilles. This is an outdoor event, attracting many loca authorities and people.
How was Vietnamese traditional martial arts welcomed abroad?
Foreign martial arts practitioners showed great respect for Vietnamese traditional martial arts; thus, they not only practiced its techniques but tried to find the information about it. They always tried to follow the program until it ended even though they were tired. Their performance made me feel more excited.
How about the development of Vietnamese traditional martial arts in France and Switzerland?
Compared to the previous years, the number of Son Long Quyen Thuat’s practitioners has considerably increased. Alongside this, the skills of martial arts master were also improved. Some universities in Switzerland also put Vietnamese traditional martial arts in their syllabus. As I know, many Swiss police practiced some of Vietnamese self-defense techniques.
