The over 200-year tamarind tree at the Quang Trung Museum in the central Province of Binh Dinh has been recently named as one of Vietnam’s 106 Heritage Trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE).

The legend is that the tree, at 24m in height, 1.2m in diameter and 600sq.m. leaf canopy, was planted by Nguyen Phi Phuc (alias Ho Phi Phuc), father of three brothers Nguyen Nhac, Nguyen Hue and Nguyen Lu, more than 200 years ago.

Apart from values of aesthetic, landscape and environment, the tree also has an important historical meaning as a symbol of the strong development and existence of the Tay Son movement amongst the Vietnamese people.
