Preserving traditional values eternally
14:4', 3/12/ 2012 (GMT+7)

The festival of Gong and folk songs is scheduled to take place for the first time in An Lao district on December 5. The event is one of activities celebrating 48th anniversary of An Lao Victory, showing efforts to preserve traditional value of Kinh, H’re and Bana ethnic groups in the district.

Artisans are preparing for the festival

The sound of Gong and folk songs are now heard everywhere in the district as local people are preparing for the event on these days.

“An Vinh is the commune where there is a largest number of H’re people living and they are very excited when hearing about the festival,” said Dinh Van Cung, An Vinh’s Chairman.

“They have prepared for the event seriously, hoping to bring all of their unique cultural features to the festival, which is expected to become a chance to raise their awareness of preserving folk culture,” he added.

Joining this year’s festival, artisans are encouraged to restore and use traditional musical instruments which are facing the risk of sinking into oblivion.

The organizing board also hailed the participation of young artists who will perform traditional musical instruments or sing folk songs.

Dinh Thi Tam living in An Trung said that she worked far from home but she still decided to join the event as she loves singing folk songs.

The festival was planned in early this year and local people are very excited and they also showed great enthusiasm to participate in the event, according Bui Duc Phu, one of members of the organizing board.

Besides the performances, the festival will see the exchange between artists and students studying at An Lao No.2 high school. The exchange program is expected to help young people to have an opportunity to know more about cultural values, contributing to preserve and uphold the quintessence of their ethnic groups.
