Only when the ethnic minority people’s awareness is raised will the scheme be successful

The scheme “Preserving, developing the culture of Vietnamese ethnic minority groups by 2020” was issued. It includes specific orientations to practical purposes.

The scheme will be financially supported by the State budget and other sources. There are different relevant bodies coordinating to carry out the scheme, which is divided into small components.

The People’s Committee in districts of An Lao, Vinh Thanh, Van Canh, Hoai An, Tay Son and Phu Cat will be responsible for each component.

When implemented at localities, the scheme is expected to create a favorable environment for the development of ethnic minority cultures, mainly in the community. It is also expected to combine with related programs to develop the socio-economic situation in ethnic minority areas.

The scheme requires experts who have specialist knowledge of ethnic culture. They always play an important role in evaluate the cultural heritage of ethnic minority groups.

They could help, for example, evaluate how the architecture of Bana’s communal house was “re-designed” and how this badly affects the preservation of traditional communal house.

Among the schemes, it is necessary to finish the component “Urgently preserve, support and develop ethnic culture and abolish unsound customs at ethnic minority areas in Binh Dinh”. It is a precondition for the manpower issue as well as the use of cultural institutions at grass roots level.

Another component “Introducing typical ethnic art works and traditional culture at schools” sees many initial advantages. At present, there are many valuable works which are going to be published; whilst, many ethnic artisans who greatly understand their culture always show enthusiasm for the preservation of cultural heritage.

The most important factor contributing to the effectiveness of the scheme is that the ethnic minority people’s awareness must be raised and they will then play the key role in preserving their unique culture.
