Vietnam Association of History Science and Xua va Nay (Past and Present) Magazine granted the statue of Vo Duy Duong to his temple in Nhon Tan Commune of An Nhon District. Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Past and Present Magazine Nguyen Hanh talks more about the hero.

Q: What do you think about the revolutionary war headed by Vo Duy Duong in Dong Thap Muoi?

A: The revolutionary war led by Vo Duy Duong in the South Vietnam took place in Ba Gong (1859-1864) and in Dong Thap Muoi (1864-1866). Unlike other leaders, he had a close relationship with the court at that time.

Dong Thap Muoi was chosen as the revolutionary base because it was a favorable terrain for a guerrilla war. After the base had been founded, most leaders of other revolutionary wars gathered here, uniting all to form an alliance.

Vo Duy Duong also allied himself with other Khmer leaders such as Achaxoa and Poucomb, let alone the participation of defeatists.

All proved that Vo Duy Duong was not only a talent strategist but one of first leaders of the anti-French resistance movement.

Q: There are different opinions about Vo Duy Duong's home town. What is your opinion?

A: The handwritten book named "Nguyen Huu Huan's biography" by unknown author said that Vo Duy Duong's hometown was in Binh Dinh. Tran Van Thong, a Vo Duy Duong's relative, copied the book in 1942 and had it published on Sai Gon Monthly Culture No. 50-52 in 1960.

The work "Vo Duy Duong and the revolutionary war in Dong Thap Muoi" also identified that Vo Duy Duong was born in Cu Lam Nam hamlet, Tuy Vien District (Nhon Tan Commune of An Nhon District now). Authors of the book spent two years studying many documents and carrying out some surveys in Binh Dinh and the Mekong River Delta. The statistics are, therefore, reliable.

Recently, some said that Vo Duy Duong's hometown was in Quang Ngai, but this wasn't proved. Vietnam Association of History Science and Xua va Nay (Past and Present) Magazine decided to present the second bronze statue of Vo Duy Duong to his temple in Nhon Tan Commune of An Nhon District.
