There are now 8 spiritual works on Thay Boi tower

Thay Boi tower is one of attractive destinations in Quy Nhon city. Many people often come here whenever they visit the city. It has not only spectacular landscape but solemn spiritual atmosphere.

The tower is a coral reef floating in the middle of Thi Nai lagoon. According to the book “Dai Nam nhat thong chi” (Essays on the United Great Vietnam), the lagoon is located in eastern Tuy Phuoc distric of Binh Dinh Province and there is a small mountain in there, called Thay Boi tower.

A book about Binh Dinh by Quach Tan also says, in the lagoon near Quy Nhon sees a quite big sandbank. It is called Thay Boi tower.

It is listed as one of key vestiges and landscapes in the “Binh Dinh’s landscapes and vestiges” collection.

“Thay Boi” is a kind of bird, which is often called kingfisher. It gathers at reefs to catch fish. The coral reef on which the kingfishers usually perch looks like a temple; thus, it is called Thay Boi tower.

There is a sandbank called Nhan in the north of the tower. This is the place for wild gooses to take a rest.

Fishermen also built a small temple about the coral reef long time ago. In 2008, a company had another hexagon two-storey temple built next to the old one.

At present, the reef is the home of 8 temples, which have different shapes and sizes. The construction of such temples on the reef shows the local’s spiritual belief as the lagoon witnessed many historical events during different dynasties.
