This year’s youth volunteer summer campaign plans to start from May 31 to August 31 with many activities. Binh Dinh Newspaper’s Hai Yen talked with Pham Vinh Thai, Secretary of Binh Dinh Youth Union about voluntary activities.

* What are key activities in the 2008 youth volunteer summer campaign?

The “summer youth volunteer” campaign is one of important voluntary events held annually. Through the activities, members of the Youth Union and students are able to prove their role in the socio-economic development.

This year’s tasks aim to solve urgent matters in the community through such programs as helping hands for going to schools, entrance exam aid, enjoy summer with children, come to far and remote areas, traffice safety, and environmental protection.

Each program is required to operate effectively in key localities. The entrance exam aid is , for example, only held in Quy Nhon city and Tuy Phuoc District. The “Come to far and remote area” program will be carried out in disadvantaged communes in Binh Dinh.

* The 2008 entrance exam aid is a key program. What has been prepared for the program?

This is the fifth year the entrance exam aid has been carried out in Binh Dinh. After ending the “Youth Month”, provincial Youth Union steered its branches in Quy Nhon and Tuy Phuoc to prepare lodgings for exam candidates.

We also asked for the information about the number of candidates coming to Binh Dinh to prepare in advance. This helps us to be ready for the entrance exam aid. A hotline will also be set up to aid students from June 28 to July 14.

Many volunteers will aid traffic police to ensure the traffice safety during the exam season.

* “Helping hands for going to schools” is a new program. What is its details?

Its main content is to review and consolidate the knowledge for weak students and out of school children. Participants will mobilize them to come back schools, raising funds for poor and disadvantaged children to help them go to schools.

Volunteers of this program will aslo  repair educational facilities and rebuid classes in disadvantaged localities.

The program of  “helping hands for going to schools” scholarship plans to be launched. It is for first year students in three Central provinces of Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Phu Yen.

Those who are doctors, nurses, technicians, teachers and students will participate in activities in disadvantaged localities to aid local people in taking care of health, legal assistance, and summer review for children.
