In mid-August, youth union members of businesses in Binh Dinh made a journey to Truong Son cemetery, Quang Tri citadel, Vinh Linh underground village, and other destinations. 15 members experiences historical values.

* Get in touch with history

After leaving a festival held for youth union members in Quang Nam, Binh Dinh’s youth union members left for Quang Tri citadel.

Locating beside Thach Han River, Quang Tri citadel symbolizes the revolutionary heroism. They can see bombs and shells as well as photographs and documents on display in the museum in the citadel. All are to show how independence fighters fought heroically for national independence, freedom and reunification of the entire Vietnam.

They continued the journey to Truong Son cemetery. The 5-ha cemetery situates on five hills and beside the south of Ben Hai River. It is the last resting-place of 10,263 revolutionary martyrs.

15 members visited most tombs, including tombs of martyrs who were born in Binh Dinh, such as Huynh Cong, born in Tam Quan, Hoai Nhon District and Pham Van Ngo, born in Cat Hanh, Phu Cat District. When they burnt incense at these tombs, their eyes filled with tears.

They also visited Vinh Moc tunnel, Hien Luong Bridge. Each is considered as a “red address”.

* Forever lessons

On the way home, everyone was tired owing to the heat and all-day walk. However, all were really happy with stories about martyrs, like a story about a girl who lives in Ha Noi has annually come to Quang Tri to offer flowers and burn incense to memorialize those sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the country during 12 years.

“I’ve visited Truong Son cemetery for many times. After each journey, I know one more stories. Getting in touch with historical values helps me to understand the value of peace,” said Tran Thi Nhu Ngan, a youth union member.

“The past teaches us lessons of patriotism and aspiration for peace and national independence. Visiting Truong Son cemetery, I realized that I spent a lot of time on useless pleasures. I promised myself to live and work in a more useful way,” said Nguyen Thi Thuy Hoa, who is working at Sai Gon Tourism JSC.
