It seems that the lullaby is forgotten in the modern society. But its vitality was clearly showed in this year’s lullaby and folk song festival.

Many unique lullabies of ethnic minorities were sweetly performed by such artists as Nguyen Thi Thoai, H’Rot, and particularly Nguyen Thi Hao, who excellently performed an epic.

The lullabies were performed by not only old artists but young ones. Hoai An District has many participating in the lullaby performance. An artist of Hoai An District said that he hadn’t known how to sing a lullaby before, so he had to practice a lot to join the festival.

“I realize that old lullabies are very interesting. I joined the festival to try my voice only but then I really felt melodies of lullabies. When coming home, I will continue to learn lullabies and encourage the others to learn them,” he said.

* Variety of folk songs

Folk songs are very various. Most participants performed many types of folk songs in the festival. They put a lot of effort into collecting old folk songs which are believed to sink into oblivion. Participants illustrated their performances with real activities.

Views of the countryside and mountainous areas in Binh Dinh were clearly showed on the stage during the festival. Vinh Thanh Distric joined the festival with some musical instruments. They well performed old folk songs featuring the ethnic minorities in Vinh Thanh District.

“I, on behalf of Bana Kriem ethnic minority, want to congratulate the festival and introduce the beauty of mountainous areas through my folk songs,” Y Bang, composer of two folk songs, said.

The most impressive performance is showed by the artist Le Pho. The image of an old white-haired man with a Vietnamese two-chord fiddle (dan co) made the audience emotive.

* Unexpectedly success

Most participants had carefully prepared for the festival. Performances with a variety of contents attracted the audience. The festival was unexpectedly successful even though it still showed some disadvantages.

It was a pity that there were not many people coming to enjoy the festival partly because it took place on weekdays.

The Organization Board needs to learn experiences to better hold festivals in the following year.
