US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Marine |
The US Ambassador said on Dec. 13 that Viet Nam witnessed many significant events in 2006 making it a good time for the country to integrate more deeply into the world economy.
Investors are showing an unprecedented interest in the country, especially after Viet Nam successfully organised the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and completed its accession to the World Trade Organisation, Ambassador Michael Marine said during his meeting with correspondents in Ha Noi.
Viet Nam should quickly seize the opportunity but most importantly, it has to implement the commitments it made to the World Trade Organisation and fully carry out its newly-enacted laws, he further said.
The Ambassador spoke highly of the progress in the Viet Nam-US relations over recent years, calling it a dynamic, vivid and active progress, especially in the areas of trade, investment and the exchange of high-level visits.
According to Ambassador Marine, the challenges remaining for both countries are how to maintain this previously achieved progress and to sustain it through year 2007, which holds various significant events for the two countries, including a visit to the US by State President Nguyen Minh Triet.
