Ha Tay province, neighbouring Ha Noi, granted on Dec. 14 an investment licence to the Meiko Viet Nam Electronics Ltd. Co., a project with 100 percent of investment capital from the Meiko Group of Japan.
The project, capitalised at over 300 million USD, is the largest so far in the province.
Under the project, the Meiko Group will build a plant at the Phung Xa Industrial Complex in Thach That district to manufacture printed circuit boards (PCB), and assemble electronic components on PCBs in addition to complete electronic appliances.
Once operational, the plant will provide jobs to nearly 7,000 labourers, and generate an annual revenue of 1.67 billion USD. It is expected to make a breakthrough in the manufacturing of hi-tech products in Ha Tay province.
The Ha Tay People's Committee Chairman, Nguyen Xuan Cuong, said that the province has so far this year licensed 19 projects with a combined capital of 800 million USD. The number of projects increased three times over 2005, and the total capital, becoming 1.38 times bigger than the registered amount over the 1990-2005 period.
Cuong said that the province would give maximum assistance to investors through upgrading infrastructure, applying incentive policies as well as resolving complications which might hinder investors' activities.
