People living in the capital city of Ha Noi will soon be able to travel around on urban metro.
Construction began on Wednesday on the depot of the Ha Noi urban railway system, which will run from Nhon in Tu Liem District to the Ha Noi Railway Station.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trieu, Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee, broke ground for the depot, which will cover about 15 hectares.
The depot will include a railway station, the maintenance and repairing area, an administration office and a training center. All will cost VND20.2 billion.
The urban railway system will be 12.5 km long, with 9.6 km running overhead and 2.9 km underground. Besides the central station located in Nhon, there will be 11 overhead and four underground stops.
Metro trains 19-20 meter long, which can run at a top speed of 80 km per hour, had been chosen as the vehicles on this route.
Total investment for the project is more than VND10.3 trillion (over 504.22 million euro). The railway system is scheduled to service by October 2010.
