The Standing Committee of the 12 th National Assembly convened its third session in Ha Noi on October 11 under the chairmanship of NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and deputy chairmen.
During the session that lasts through October 19, the NA Standing Committee will contribute opinions to the preparation of the second session of the 12 th NA, the law building programme for 2008, the draft Red Cross operation law, the draft legal document issuance bill (amendments) and a draft ordinance on vessel capture procedures.
The session will approve the amended and supplemented ordinance on a number of articles of the ordinance on execution of imprisonment sentences and hear the supervision results of cultural lifestyles at grassroots level and the implementation of the second phase of the socio-economic development programme for the poorest ethnic and mountainous communes, or programme 135.
The NA deputies will give opinions to the Government and supervising delegations’ reports on the implementation of ground clearance and compensation and job generation for displaced people and the grant of land use certificates.
They will also hear reports by the Government and the NA’s committees on the implementation of traffic safety, socio-economic targets and the State budget in 2007 and socio-economic targets for 2008, the settlement of citizens’ petitions, the fight against corruption and wastefulness and the crime prevention and control work.
The NA deputies will also contribute opinions to a celebration plan on the 30 th anniversary of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and hear reports on the implementation of border agreements between Viet Nam and neighbouring countries.
