PM pushes for fulfillment of annual targets
17:20', 4/11/ 2007 (GMT+7)

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked ministries, sectors and localities to take drastic measures to fulfill this year’s targets, including a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 8.5 percent.

The government leader made the request at a regular cabinet meeting in Ha Noi on November 3, emphasising the need to control price hikes and speed up production and business activities.

He pointed to administrative reform, corruption combating, infrastructure and human resource development as issues that require concerted efforts to deal with in the remaining months.

At the meeting, cabinet members heard reports on socio-economic issues, domestic market, imports-exports activities in October and in the first 10 months of the years.

They also discussed solutions to remove obstacles in infrastructure construction, as well as matters related to inspection work, the fight against corruption and administrative reform.

Reports presented by the Ministry of Planning and Investment showed that the country’s industrial production value for the first 10 months of the year rose to 468 trillion VND, a year-on-year increase of 17 percent.

The private sector was the biggest mover during the reviewed period with a year-on-year rise of 20.8 percent, followed by the foreign-invested sector, 18.2 percent and state-owned sector, 10.3 percent.

Viet Nam has so far this year brought in 11.26 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI), up 36.4 percent over the same period last year, according to the ministry.

The country fetched close to 4.2 billion USD from exports in October, bringing the ten-month export value to more than 39 billion USD, a rise of 18.6 percent year on year.
