The National Assembly deputies on November 12 adopted a Resolution on the socio-economic development plan for 2008, which targets a gross domestic product growth of 8.5-9 percent.
The resolution stipulates that right in 2008, the nation strives to achieve a high sustainable economic growth rate and surpass the level identified to be a low-income developing nation. Also this year, the country will focus on developing the infrastructure system, effectively implementing its commitment in international economic integration and improving human resources’ quality.
In addition, the nation will promote the system of public health care and scientific and technological research and applications, effectively settle traffic problems, environmental pollution and urgent social problems, and accelerate administrative reform and improve the efficiency of the State apparatus.
The resolution also set basic socio-economic development targets for 2008, including a 20-22 percent export revenue increase, a social development investment capital representing 42 percent of the nation’s GDP, a consumer price index hike lower than the country’s economic growth, a 1.7 million job generation, a 11-12 percent poverty reduction, 74 percent of rural people and 85 percent of urban people having access to safe water.
Also on November 12, the NA approved a resolution on State budget estimates for 2008.
The NA deputies will continue discussing the Law on Viet Nam Red Cross activities on the afternoon of November 12.
