Foreigners coming to HCM City for Tet rise 30 percent

More than 243,700 foreign tourists have been arriving in HCM City for Tet since early February, a year-on-year rise of 30 percent, said the municipal Tourism Department.

The majority of them are come from the US, Japan, Taiwan (China), the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Australia.

Doan Thi Thanh Tra, deputy chief of Saigontourist's Marketing and Planning Section, said that Saigontourist will welcome more than 3,900 foreign visitors for the first four days of the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet).

HCM City is expected to receive over 1,000 foreigners for Tet. In addition, Fiditourist will welcome almost 4,000 foreign tourists while Ben Thanh Tourist, Apex, Exotissimo Travel VN and other companies will receive between 1,000 and 2,500.

At present, the occupancy rates of five-star hotels in the city such as New World, Sheraton, Caravelle, Sofitel and Rex have reached more than 90 percent as they offer "Tet Package" programme to their tourists.

On Tet, Caravelle Hotel will organise a drum festival for the spring while the New World Hotel will host a performance of "lan-su-rong" (unicorn-lion-dragon). Other hotels in the city will provide traditional Vietnamese dishes for the occasion.
