Final session of 11th National Assembly opens

The final session of the 11th National Assembly opened in Ha Noi on Mar. 20 as elections for the next legislature are scheduled to take place on May 20.

Opening the session, NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong stressed that the legislative body will spend much time reviewing the work of the 11th NA, thereby drawing lessons for the continued reform of the 12th NA's organisation and activities.

On the first day, NA deputies are expected to hear reports from the NA on its work during the 11th legislature as well as from the State President, the Prime Minister, the President of the Supreme People's Court and the Chief of the Supreme People's Procuracy on their work in the 2002-07 term.

During its two-week sitting, the NA is scheduled to consider and pass a bill on the amendments and supplements to the Law on National Assembly Organisation and a bill on the supplementats to article 73 of the Labour Code to allow workers and public employees to have one more holiday on the death anniversary of Hung King on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month.

The legislature will also debate two other bills on amnesty and chemicals as well as hear reports on and discuss the enforcement of the Law on Anti-Corruption and the Law on Thrift Practice and Waste Combat.

Hearings will also be held during the session, focusing on burning issues of public concern.
