The Veterinary Department on June 3 announced a fresh bird flu outbreak in the Red river delta province of Thai Binh.
The outbreak occurred at a farm in Thai Phuc commune, Thai Thuy district, killing 770 one month old unvaccinated poultry, including 650 ducks. It listed Thai Binh the 15th locality hit by bird flu since the disease was rediscovered last month.
The Veterinary Department said the lax quarantine over the transport of poultry between localities was the main cause to the reemergence of the disease in the 15 localities, of which 12 are in the north.
It reported that the National Steering Board for Avian Influenza Prevention and Control has dispatched working groups to affected localities to examine their action in face of the spread of the disease.
So far, 41 out of the country's 64 provinces and cities completed the first round of vaccination against avian influenza for poultry in 2007, and 21 localities are deploying the repeated vaccination of the first round.
