It was imperative that the first session of the 12th National Assembly got off to a solid beginning in order to lay the foundation for good governance for the remainder of the law making body's tenure.
That was the message delivered to National Assembly deputies by assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong at the NA's closing session on Aug. 4.
In his closing address, Chairman Trong called for the need to raise the role and efficiency of the government in building a socialism-oriented market economy, the creation of needed legal frameworks and the roll out of mechanisms to serve national development.
Chairman Trong also urged NA deputies to implement an action plan that was designed to allow for greater input by the nation's constituents that would see closer contact with voters and better supervision of public complaints.
Earlier, the National Assembly passed a resolution to shorten the tenure of the 12th National Assembly from five years to four years and send candidates to the polls for the 13th National Assembly in May 2011 instead of May 2012.
The National Assembly also discussed and adopted a resolution on the state budget for the 2005 year and introduced amendments and supplements to a number of articles regarding the Anti-corruption Law.
