Vietnam and Slovakia should increase their efforts to effectively implement signed agreements, helping to bring bilateral ties in economics, trade, investment, labour, education and training and culture to the same level as their political relationship.

This statement was made by Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh at a reception for the visiting Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Hanoi on October 27.

The Vietnamese Party leader praised the positive results achieved during talks between PM Robert Fico and a number of Vietnamese leaders and thanked the Slovak government and people for their assistance towards the Vietnamese people who live and study in the central European country.

PM Robert Fico said that Slovakia has always attached great importance to further strengthening the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam , particularly in areas such as economics, trade, culture, science and technology.

He went on to say that he believed that the people of Vietnam will record even greater achievements during this period of national development, helping to create a strong, prosperous Vietnam with a fair, democratic and civilised society.

The same day, PM Fico met with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, who expressed his hope that Slovakia would share its experiences in legislative, executive and judiciary management with Vietnam .

Chairman Trong praised Slovakia’s economic, scientific, technical and educational achievements as well as the increasingly important role it plays both regionally and globally.

He agreed with PM Fico on the necessity of boosting the traditional friendship and cooperation that exists between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect, mutual understanding, mutual benefits and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, to aid the mutual development of both nations.

Chairman Trong welcomed the re-opening of the Slovak embassy in Hanoi and the forthcoming opening of a Vietnamese embassy in Slovakia . He expressed his hopes that, alongside the development of a strong Vietnamese-Slovak relationship, levels of cooperation between the two parliaments would also be strengthened and promoted.

He asked PM Fisco to convey his invitation to the Chairman of the Slovak national assembly to visit Vietnam in order to discuss a range of measures to further develop the two parliaments’ cooperative ties.

PM Fico asserted that his visit aims to strengthen and promote the modest economic and commercial cooperation that currently exists between the two countries.

Slovakia-Vietnam ties have the added advantages bestowed by the two countries’ time-honoured relations, as well as the various contributions the Vietnamese community has made to Slovakia’s socio-economic development, the Slovak PM said. He added that the fact that many Vietnamese have either studied or worked in Slovakia has also helped to create favourable conditions for the two countries to successfully promote cooperation and exchanges.

He pledged to protect the rights and interest of the Vietnamese community in Slovakia and to support Vietnam in its dealings with the European Union.

He spoke highly of the role of the two parliaments in promoting Slovakia-Vietnam relations.

He asked the Vietnamese National Assembly to support Slovak companies in their efforts to invest in and conduct business in Vietnam.
