Viet Nam and Japan have agreed to strengthen their cooperation at international inter-parliamentary forums, helping make bilateral ties between the two countries more practical and efficient.
Viet Nam’s National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and Japan’s Diet (House of Representatives) Speaker Yohei Kono reached the agreement at talks held in Tokyo on March 18.
During the talks, Speaker Yohei Kono said he was pleased with Japan-Viet Nam relations and the exchange of the two legislative bodies, which he said have helped increase mutual understanding and trust as well as multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
Chairman Trong, who began his official visit to Japan on March 16, thanked the Government and people of Japan for their effective assistance to Viet Nam. He said, however, that the two countries should further enhance multifaceted relations to match their full potential and desires.
He said the two sides should implement signed cooperative agreements in parallel with considering new projects.
Speaker Kono said Japan considers Viet Nam an important Asian partner and wants to further boost the strategic partnership at bilateral and multilateral levels.
The two sides agreed to make greater efforts to work “towards strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia ” in line with the spirit of the agreement reached between the two countries.
They also agreed to further exchange visits by delegations and encourage their subsidiaries to share experiences in law making and supervision work.
During a meeting with Japanese House of Councilors President Eda Satsuki, Chairman Trong said his agency will continue working with the Vietnamese Government to create the most favourable environment for foreign investors, including those from Japan.
President Eda Satsuki said similarities between Japan and Viet Nam are a foundation for the two nations to promote bilateral ties.
He also said the Japanese Government, parliament and those in entrepreneurial circles want to increase cooperation with Viet Nam and he committed to encouraging investors to increase their ventures in Viet Nam.
