Party leader focuses on youth advancement
16:51', 24/7/ 2008 (GMT+7)

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has called for youth’s stronger work in the era of industrialisation and modernisation.

He told the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee at its third conference in Hanoi on July 23 that the Party would pay more attention to the work of young people and bring them to the forefront of industrialisation and modernization, as well as national defense.

Manh criticised some grassroots Party organisations for paying undue attention to the advancement of youth, such as the lack of training and promotion for the younger generation.

He called on the youth union to improve its performance and its officials and members to better their personal characters and set examples in work and daily life in an effort to increase the union’s influence among young people.

“Youth are always the core of the country, masters of the fatherland and the future of the nation,” Manh said.

“Youth play a forefront role in national construction and defense and youth are centred in the national strategy on human resources development.”

He added that youth advancement will be a key task of the entire political system under the Party leadership.

“To build a strong Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union is an important content of the Party strengthening strategy,” the Party leader said.

“It is considered a measure to advance the Party forwards,” he stressed.
