15:30', 7/1/ 2009 (GMT+7)

The tenth Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam opened its ninth plenum in Hanoi on January 5.

The plenum will review the implementation of the resolution of the tenth National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the first half of its tenure (2006 – 2008) and two years of the implementation of the resolution of the 3rd plenum (the tenth tenure) on enhancing the Party’s leading capacity in anti - corruption and wastefulness prevention.

The conference will also review ten years of the implementation of the resolution of the 3rd plenum (the eighth tenure) on cadre strategy, and at the same time, discuss and decide about some other important matters.

General Secretary Nong Duc Manh gave the opening speech, emphasising that at this conference, with its role of the strategic level where the Party’s line, and the guidance on implementation of Party’s line and the State’s laws are put forth, it is necessary for us to consider and recognise it at the strategic range and grasp the dialectical and objective points of view.

He asked the conference to make an analysis of strong points and weak points in the implementation of the resolution of the tenth National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the first half of its tenure (2006 – 2008) in order to find out the root causes to withdraw useful experience and lessons and work out solutions for successfully implementing the resolutions.

The conference is scheduled to last until January 14.
