General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nong Duc Manh, on behalf of the Party and State, on Feb. 10 extended his best wishes to all Vietnamese people on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year festival (Tet).
As a new spring is approaching in Vietnam , the Party leader expressed his pleasure at witnessing the country overcoming a year of many difficulties and challenges, and obtaining important achievements.
The country halted the economic slowdown and went on to achieve a high rate of growth, stabilising the macro economy, ensuring social welfare for all people--especially the poor--strengthening the political system and the national solidarity bloc, maintaining national defence and security, and expanding diplomatic relations. The country’s power and position were constantly improved in the international arena.
General Secretary Manh said that 2010 will see many historical, political, cultural and external events in Vietnam.
This year will witness the completion of the country’s implementation of its socio-economic development strategy for 2001-2010, its socio-economic development plan for 2006-2010, and the holding of the 11th Party Congress, he said.
He said that in 2010, the Party, the entire people and the army will make all-out efforts to develop all the country’s potential and resources and implement synchronous measures to build the economy at an even higher rate of growth than 2009.
He took this occasion to express his sincere thanks to entire people, the army and foreign expatriates for their contributions to the above-mentioned achievements and for their contributions in future.
He also thanked foreign countries and international organisations for their effective cooperation and assistance to Vietnam over the past year.
