A series of activities have taken place in cities and provinces across the country to celebrate the 63rd War Invalids and War Martyrs Day, which falls on July 27.

To Huy Rua, Politburo member and Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam's Central Committee, on Saturday attended the break-ground ceremony of the War Martyrs and Heroes Memorial in Quang Tri Town of Quang Tri Province.
The memorial, built on an area of 50,000sq.m, is located on the banks of the Thach Han River by the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rua said that works such as the memorial were symbols indicating the country's deep gratitude towards war heroes and martyrs.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan attended a ceremony to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the death of 10 heroic Dong Loc female volunteers, held in Dong Loc Crossroads Relic Area in Ha Tinh Province.
Speaking at the event, Nhan said Ha Tinh Province's army and people had contributed greatly to the country's victory,adding that Viet Nam's youth needed to consider the sacrifice as the symbol of the willingness to overcome any difficulties and to work for their country.
Also on his visit to the province, Nhan presented gifts to families of two of the Dong Loc volunteers.
Previously, the province organised a memorial ceremony to commemorate the war heroes who sacrificed themselves for the country's independence.
Pham Quang Nghi, Ha Noi City's Party Committee Secretary, visited and presented gifts to people who contributed to the struggle for national independence and freedom at the Centre No. 2.
Since the beginning of the year, the capital has mobilised more than VND15 billion (US$790,000) in funds in order to support families who are beneficiaries of social welfare.
Northern Thai Binh Province's leaders met and gave presents to family members of war martyrs, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and veterans.
The province also donated VND10 billion ($526,000) to war veterans and disabled soldiers, who are being treated in and outside of the province.
Another VND13.5 billion ($710,000) in funds was given to more than 58,000 people who had contributed to the country's revolution.
The province currently has more than 50,000 martyrs, more than 32,000 war invalids, and more than 2,100 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.
In the past year, the province built more than 3,000 houses for families of war martyrs and invalids.
Meanwhile, Gia Lai Province is holding a requiem for 1,200 martyrs, who served in Laos and Cambodia, at the Martyrs Cemetery in Duc Co District.
About 2,300 Buddhist nuns and monks in the province will attend the ceremony. A candlelight vigil honouring war martyrs and heroes has also been organised for this evening at the provincial cemetery and War Memorial. Approximately 1,000 Youth Union members and students will also take part in this ceremony.
Also on this occasion, the provincial Border Guard Command is co-operating with authorities from the three bordering districts of Duc Co, Ia Grai and Chuprong to build 50 houses for the families of martyrs and war invalids.
In northern Phu Tho Province, the provincial general hospital is offering free check-ups and medicine to the beneficiaries of social welfare in Xuan Son, Son Hung and Kim Duc communes. Three houses for the families of war invalids are also being built in the communes.
Another 600 people in Chu Hoa and Tan Duc communes have been given free check-ups and medicine.
The People's Committee in Tan Son District, which is one of the 61 poorest districts in the country, has co-ordinated various activities for the occasion. The district has given Kim Thuong Commune VND80 million ($4,200) in order to repair the martyrs' cemetery in the commune and provided VND120 million ($6,300) in funds to build the Xuan Dai Martyrs Cemetery.
