Construction of the first windpower plant in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta started on September 9 at Bien Dong A hamlet, Vinh Trach Dong commune, Bac Lieu township of Bac Lieu province.

With an output of 310 million KWh per year, the 500 hectare windpower plant will have 66 wind turbines of 1.5 MW, a 22/110KV transformer station and a 15km power line with a capacity of 110KW connecting the national grid.

The work is invested by the Cong Ly Construction-Trade-Tourism Ltd company at a cost of 4.5 trillion VND and will be finished in the next 36 months.

Nguyen Nam Hai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade said that the project would contribute to dealing with the shortage of electricity in the country and speed up the usage of clean renewable energy to protect the environment. Along with ecological tourism and aquaculture activities, the project will also generate more jobs in the locality.
